FAIRFAX VIRGINIA: Felony credit card larceny charge (VA Code 18.2-193 – carrying up to 10 years in prison) and a felony credit card forgery charge (VA Code 18.2-192 – carrying up to 20 years in prison) were both DROPPED with a plea to the misdemeanor credit card fraud charge (VA Code 18.2-195 – carrying up to an additional 1 year in prison). Client walked away a free man with NO ACTIVE JAIL TIME and just a $100 fine (no restitution) even though he was facing up to 31 years in prison as charged.

Alexandria, Virginia: Marina Medvin’s client has walked out of the trial courtroom today as a free man after being accused of 9 felonies relating to credit card number theft and fraud. ALL charges were DISMISSED on defense counsel’s motion during the trial. He was facing charges of credit card theft under VA Code 18.2-192, credit card forgery under VA Code 18.2-193, and credit card fraud under VA Code 18.2-195. He was facing a maximum prison sentence of 80 years in jail as charged.

WHAT IS LARCENY?
Larceny is simply the crime of theft. Virginia courts define larceny as the wrongful or fraudulent taking of things of value, belonging to another, without that person or business’ consent, and with the intention to permanently deprive that person or business of the value of the items taken. Grand Larceny is a felony. Petit Larceny is a misdemeanor. They are divided by the value of the items stolen.
